The deep
powder denizen. A carbon fiber weave wrapped around Trab's patented
aramid honeycomb I-beam core produces a lively ride with excellent
torsional rigidity. The ski mountaineering sidecut combined with
52 HRC carbon steel edges produces phenomenal edge hold. Add Trab's
oversized tips that float better and reduce tip dive without sacrificing
edge hold they way rocker skis do. The ski mountaineering side-cut
also allows for highly adaptive turns, proving equally adept at
carving both short and long radius arcs. The lightest deep powder
ski available, the Stelvio Freeride Light XL will take you farther
for more face shots on those really deep days!

"I've been waiting
for this," one tester admitted. "A Trab with enough
width for deeper days." The XL is a supersized Stelvio Light,
with more girth but not a lot more weight due to Trab's carbon
honeycomb core. And every tester commented about its weight -
or lack thereof. "It's like it's not there," one said
"A ski mountaineer's dream," another obsessed. "Uphill
is a pleasure," opined a third. Testers said the XL proved
to be "surprisingly powerful" and "suited for yo-yoing
until you drop." Even a Clydesdale-category tester said it
had, "surprising life and energy considering its size."
Given its dimensions, one veteran tester calculated it "May
be a perfect 10." - Backcountry

"Trab's
proprietary lightweight honeycomb core construction is well known
among the rando-racer set. It creates light, responsive skis with
great edge control. Last year they applied their technology to the
relatively wide Stelvio Light, but the ski remains modest in width
for the North American market. We have been asking for a bigger
Stelvio for years, and this year Trab delivered. The Stelvio Light
XL holds onto the narrower Stelvio's smooth, round feel, but moves
up to a 90mm waist and a 126mm tip. The XL weighs an impressive
six pounds per pair and holds its own in a variety of snow...It
is responsive and will make any touring-minded traditionalist happy.
It prefers medium radius arcs and offers plenty of surface area
to tackle deep snow. It's crisp, old school wood top sheet is a
head turner. Trab's attention to detail is obvious, and the Stelvio
XL is a sweet, classic touring-minded ski." - Offpiste |

"The
handmade Stelvio Light XL outskied every other superlight entry
in our test. "A ski mountaineer's dream," said one of
our peak seeking purists. "It's like it's not even there,"
said another, noting how surprisingly powerful the carbon-wrapped,
honeycomb core was on firmer snow." - Outside |
